Professor Yao Zhonghua of the University of Hong Kong Elected as Council Member of the 11th Council of the Chinese Society of Space Research

Professor Yao Zhonghua, Director of the Laboratory for Space Research (LSR) at the University of Hong Kong, was elected as a council member of the 11th Council of the Chinese Society of Space Research (CSSR) during the society’s 11th General Assembly held on Sept. 20.

Professor Yao stated that he will actively leverage his position as a council member to vigorously promote the University of Hong Kong’s participation in the nation’s future space missions and to strengthen space research and development capabilities at the LSR. He also noted that he will carry out international cooperation by leveraging Hong Kong’s unique role as a “super connector” to enhance the international cooperation elements of China’s space missions.

Previously, Professor Yao’s team successfully secured the right to host the 2028 International Conference known as Magnetosphere of Outer Planets (MOP). This will mark the first time in the conference’s half-century history that it will be held in China, and it will take place in Hong Kong.

Professor Yao’s election as a council member of the CSSR fully demonstrates that the Laboratory for Space Research at the University of Hong Kong can serve as an ideal platform to strengthen opportunities for space science and exploration missions between China and the world.
