When Undergraduate Curiosity Uncovers Enceladus’ Uneven Space Environment

An HKU undergraduate summer research project published in The Astrophysical Journal reveals an asymmetric electron distribution around Saturn’s moon, Enceladus. Utilizing data from NASA’s Cassini spacecraft, the team observed minor variations on the upstream side facing Saturn’s magnetospheric plasma, contrasted with significant electron depletion in the downstream wake.
