About
The Laboratory for Space Research (LSR) is a part of the Faculty of Science at The University of Hong Kong. We are a team of talented individuals who are keen on leveraging opportunities particularly in the NewSpace economy, Space Missions and issues around Space Sustainability.
The LSR has three key and updated missions:
- To emerge as a leading interdisciplinary research centre in Space Sciences, Space Sustainability and related technologies across the Asian region with a strong identity.
- To maintain and Grow the LSR to be an internationally recognised brand for research
excellence in these areas
- To strengthen and develop our ties to the Mainland NewSpace and Space Science programs and globally
LSR engages in research in and is focussed on these 3 key areas:
- Space Missions and Science (we are currently participating in 3 active missions)
- The NewSpace Economy that could be worth 2 trillion USD by 2035
- Space Sustainability (including Space Situational Awareness, Space Traffic Management and Debris Remediation technologies)
The LSR Internship programme
The LSR also has a very active student internship program in the Faculty of Science during the summer with 30+ students mentored each year from all over the world. The program offers short-term research support and hosts a mix of students from top local and international high schools, undergraduates and even postgraduates from HKSAR, the Mainland and overseas. This includes interns from the UK, US, India, Singapore, Switzerland, France and many more.
