Who We Are

Over the last few years the LSR has transitioned away from advances in Astrophysics, and Space and Planetary Science and into Space Missions, the NewSpace Economy and Space Sustainability. We advocate strongly for HKSAR to emerge as a global Space Sustainability hub. The LSR is becoming more involved in cross-disciplinary research related to these exciting developments in space science and technology which together provided the base rationale and motivation to establish our Laboratory for Space Research (LSR) in 2017. Our strategic directions will continue to depend on our success in grasping opportunities in HK, Mainland China and elsewhere in these 3 key area. Our rationale remains to further collaboration with China, especially in the GBA, Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou and to take advantage of the strongly emerging Chinese space programs. LSR members already have close relationships with a number of senior and emerging Chinese leaders in these areas. The LSR is an autonomous and an interdisciplinary entity within the Faculty of Science.
